TASIS Speaks (2021 / 2022)

TASIS Speaks is a school-wide public speaking event aimed at  establishing a culture of oracy in our school by building teacher capacity and encouraging students to develop a growth mindset toward speaking. Our teachers work with students within our language arts curriculum to develop and deliver speeches in their classrooms, providing supportive feedback in the process. In the process, students also learn the importance of being an engaged and empathetic audience for their classmates.

Grade 8 End of Year Overnight Trip - May 2022

Eighth graders took part in an overnight trip, signifying the end of Middle School and transition into High School. Students spent two full days together at Campo Aventura in Portugal. The program included a wide range of activities specifically created for this age group (e.g., low, and high ropes, paintball, slide, canoeing, climbing, old mine, swimming pool, and a night disco party).

Grade 6 China Trip to Shaoguan - April 2019

All grade 6 tudents traveled three hours from Guangzhou to visit the natural area near Shaoguan. Alongside Firefly, the Grade 6 Team hiked, kayaked, and camped with students.

All the while, students worked on their team-building and relationship skills while being exposed to the culture and natural beauty of the area.

Grades 9-12 ROTA International Trip to Cambodia - April 2018

Students traveled from Qatar to Cambodia to lead workshops to peers and younger children in two schools based on cultural exchange and building English skills.

Alongside Reach Out to Asia (ROTA), a colleague and I helped arrange logistics for international travel and took responsibility for all aspects of student work, learning, and safety while there.

While there, students also visited 

Grades 11-12 Trip to Amwaj BiobiN Organic Composting Site - October 2017

Students took a trip to an Amwaj facility outside of Doha to learn about sustainability efforts being implemented there. They learned about recycling biodegradable waste from the participants in the country via BiobiNs. They toured the property and saw the farmland created from desert with the compost created on site.

Grade 10 Trip to Qatari Mangroves and Abu Nakhla Water Reservoir - August 2017

Students traveled outside of the city to mangroves, an ecosystem based on salt water shrubs that live mostly along the eastern coast of the country. Students studied the plant and wildlife there. They also traveled to Abu Nakhla, the largest water reserve in the country to study the efforts toward water desalination and storage in the country.
